Adrian Segečić came off the bench to secure Pompey a point in a match against Watford they might have won.

An early Minhyeok Yang finish had given the home side the lead at Fratton Park and there were chances to increase that advantage.

But Imrân Louza and Rocco Vata to hit back for the Hornets following the interval before Segečić’s fierce finish ensured the contest ended all square.

John Mousinho made four changes from the side that were narrowly beaten on the road at Ipswich at the weekend.

Skipper Marlon Pack was handed a first start after impressing from the bench in Suffolk, while there were returns for Conor Chaplin, John Swift and Jordan Williams.

Luke Le Roux, Segečić, Márk Kosznovszky and Zak Swanson all dropped to the bench, where they were joined by the fit-again Harvey Blair.

Pompey were looking for a fast start – and that is exactly what they got by taking the lead inside five minutes.

A long throw from Pack caused havoc and James Abankwah could only clear the ball as far as MINHYEOK, who coolly steered it into the bottom corner of the net.

The lead might have been doubled after the South Korean loanee linked up well with Connor Ogilvie and Andre Dozzell on the left.

His effort was blocked and the follow up attempt from Pack was spilled by Egil Selvik, who leapt on the loose ball before Colby Bishop could capitalise.

But the visitors had a chance of their own when Nestory Irankunda found Louza, only for the midfielder to blaze his shot high into the Fratton End.

Watford were enjoying a spell of pressure, but the Blues defended their box well to prevent Josef Bursik having to deal with anything of note.

The hosts were looking more threatening at the other end and Chaplin sprayed a pass out to Williams on 25 minutes.

He then cut the ball back to Minhyeok on the edge of the box, with the winger's fierce effort tipped over the bar by Selvik.

Irankunda soon drilled narrowly past the post at the other end of the pitch, although Bursik always looked to have it covered.

And that was the Australia international’s last contribution, as Paulo Pezzolano soon replaced him with Vata.

But Irankunda did not take his withdrawal well, punching a seat in the dug-out, hurling a bottle of water to the ground and then storming off down the tunnel.

Pompey were still looking the more likely side to add to the scoring and Dozzell flashed wide from a tight angle after Ogilvie’s cross was deflected into his path.

Bishop then rose to meet Swift’s free-kick into the mixer and head over, as the Blues finished the half with a flourish.

Half Time: Pompey 1 Watford 0

As bright as the Blues had been before the break, they were caught napping immediately after the restart.

Vivaldo Semedo was alert to steal possession in the middle of the pitch and Vata charged down the left before squaring for Louza to slot home the leveller.

Pompey immediately set about trying to restore their lead, although Bishop could only send a header looping onto the roof of the net.

But they found themselves behind on 56 minutes after Max Alleyne sent a long ball down the line that was nodded down by Jeremy Petris.

Moussa Sissoko fired it into the centre, where Vata was stationed to bundle over line from just a couple of yards out.

The stunned hosts tried to hit back and were committing plenty of men forward in their search for an equaliser.

Mousinho made a double switch just past the hour mark, replacing Minhyeok and Chaplin with Blair and Segečić.

And Terry Devlin then came on for Williams at right-back, as the Blues struggled to break their opponents down.

The Northern Ireland international soon managed to pick out Swift, who flashed a shot into the side netting.

But Pompey’s pressure finally paid off on 79 minutes after Blair, who was on the ground, did well to hook a pass out to his right.

Swift picked it up and saw a shot blocked, but the danger was still alive and SEGEČIĆ worked the ball onto his left foot before lashing home the leveller.

They were not content to sit on that and pushed for a winner, but Watford still looked threatening on the break.

Segečić tried his luck again with a shot from the edge of the box, although this time the ball was gathered by Selvik.

And although there was plenty of desire on display from the hosts as the seconds ticked down, they could not find another goal.
